A beautiful sight, so happy tonight, walking in a DIY winter wonderland.
Deck the halls — and tables, doors, mantles, and bannisters — with a little DIY flair this holiday season. From home décor to creative crafts to gorgeous centerpieces, add your own personal touch to your Christmas decorations this year. Tis the season to get your craft on, and we’ve got some DIY winter wonderland decoration ideas to get you started.
Set a Snowy Tablescape
Using a white tablecloth as your backdrop, place five or six silver reindeer figurines down the center of the table. Silver-painted pine cones and a silver or blue ribbon woven in between the reindeer add dimension to your tablescape. Finish off the scene with a few glittery votive candles for warmth and light.
Wine Bottle Centerpieces
Apply two coats of opaque white spray paint to wine bottles of various heights and silhouettes. Use white flocking spray to add some texture to the bottles, and fill them with either rhinestone or floral sprays in silver. Place your vases in clusters down the center of the table, and scatter in some white and silver glass ball ornaments for a little extra holiday shimmer.
Vintage metal baking molds in fun shapes and sizes add a nostalgic touch to any tree. Go hunting for a set of antique holiday cookie cutters from a local thrift store or flea market, then tie on a Christmas-themed ribbon or burlap loop for easy hanging.
Toy Forest Creatures
For a showstopping mantle display, dip inexpensive plastic deer figurines in white glue and glass glitter. Place several of these figurines along the length of a pine garland, with white tapered candles in between. Alternatively, make your deer the centerpiece of a snow globe by arranging sprigs of cedar, gold or brass bells, and some Epsom salts under a glass dome case.
There’s nothing that epitomizes winter more than a fanciful snowflake — so bring that seasonal spirit into your home with a frosty garland. Simply drape a white garland with snowflakes to form a banner across your mantel, or weave the garland into a spray of evergreen. We offer this garland in ribbon form, as well as tinsel.
A Unique Wreath
If you’re looking to branch out from the traditional evergreen wreath, make your door merry and bright with a spray-painted ceiling medallion (which you can find at most hardware stores). Go with a bright green or red, or make it shimmer with a pretty silver or gold. Use a high-gloss paint for extra shine, then loop through a bold, colorful Christmas ribbon to hang.
Shiny Tinsel Banister
Create your own DIY winter wonderland by adding a tinsel garland or silver deco mesh to your staircase. Drape it in swags, and hang delicate paper snowflakes on the wall behind. Tie a bow from a wintry ribbon at the top of each drape.
Woodsy Jingle Bell Ornament
Gather a few small pine cones and paint them with white craft paint for a snow-covered look. Screw small eye hooks into the base of the pine cone. String two or three together with jute cord, then slip on a jingle bell, and you’re done!
