Grosgrain Ribbon
Grosgrain ribbon gets its name from its transverse rib stitch pattern, which give it strength. Grosgrain fabric was used to make clothing all the way up until 1920, but now grosgrain is mostly referred to as ribbon. The ribbed stitching gives the ribbon some depth and a little more feel than satin ribbon.
While grosgrain ribbon is extremely popular for wrapping gifts, it is used for other purposes as well. Lanyards are often made from grosgrain ribbon due to its strength.
